What if I get a Class Notice? Can I be bound by a settlement or judgment of a class action?
If you receive a NOTICE in a class case, or see or hear about one in the media, your rights may be affected. A court may have certified a class or a settlement may have been reached. You need to decide what to do. You may be bound by the result even though you didn’t sue and you may be entitled to participate in the benefits. The Notice will explain your rights and you may be directed where to seek additional information. Today, most cases also post information and notices on the internet. If you feel the result is unfair you may object to the settlement or hire an attorney to file an objection on your behalf. You may, in most situations, ask to be excluded from the class. You will not be bound by the result and you will be excluded from sharing in the benefit.
